50th Profession Anniversary of Fr. Gregory Leonidas

Maurice Leonidas was born on the 13th of October 1945 at Kandy. He was received to the Monastery by Very Rev. Fr. Aiden de Silva OSB, the Superior Major, in 1965 and received the monastic habit. He began the novitiate in the same year. On completing a year at the novitiate, he made his simple profession on 2nd of July 1966. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the monastic consecration of Fr. Gregory Leonidas as a member of the Sylvestro-Benedictine family in Sri Lanka. Persevering till the end he made his solemn profession on in 1973. He was ordained a Priest by his Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Oswald Gomis, on 7th April 1973.

Fr. Gregory has worked tirelessly, in various capacities, for the congregation and for God’s people over the past 50 years. He was adept in music and his voice serenaded at many Liturgical services. As a pastor he was an enthusiastic minister among God’s people. He labored as parish priest in Pandiwatte, Ragala, Haputale, Wellawaya and Idalgashinna. The Lawrence Hyde Boy’s Home was his brain-child, in which he formed responsible citizens. At present he is serving at St. Ignatius Church at Ampara. The Sylvestro Benedictine family gathered on the 14th of July at Montefano to praise God for the wonderful vocation he has given to Fr. Gregory and extended their prayerful wishes to him on his 50th Profession Anniversary.
