Feast of St. Sylvester 2015

Categories: Latest Events

The Solemnity of our Holy Founder St. Sylvester Abbot was held on the 25th and 26th of November. On the 25th evening all the monks gathered at our monastic chapel to sing the vespers in Latin and at the end each monk came in procession to kiss the relic of St. Sylvester which is a custom we have been flowing in the monastery. It was also a moment to celebrate the 170th anniversary of our presence in Sri Lanka. It is a moment to renew ones commitment to monastic life in the Sylvestrine Tradition. The following day, that’s on the 26th Thursday, the Solemn Eucharist was presided by Bishop Kingsley Swampillai, the Bishop emeritus of the diocese of Trincomalie. He gave a beautiful homily presenting St. Sylvester as a role model for all religious. Many priests and religious were present to join the monks in praising God for his goodness.
